iPhone versus Nexus One deel 2

Daar waar al in het activeren van beide smartphones fundamentele verschillen zitten is dat tevens het geval wanneer ik daadwerkelijk met de smartphones aan de slag ga. De ‘responsiveness’ van het iPhone scherm blijft iets ongeevenaards. Bij de minste of geringste aanraking van het scherm reageert de iPhone al, subliem. De Nexus One is by far het beste wat ik in al die jaren op het gebied van touchscreens heb gehad maar de iPhone behoudt hier wat mij betreft de koppositie.

De ‘native’ integratie die tussen de Nexus One en een groot aantal online Google diensten wordt bewerkstelligd is uniek. Natuurlijk kun je op de iPhone apps downloaden waarmee je ook Google maps hebt en zelfs Streetview echter de wijze waarop dit in de genen van de Nexus One zit ontbreekt op de iPhone. Een simpel scenario. Via mijn contacten zie ik alle gegevens van een persoon, telefoonnummers, emails en het adres. Vanuit dat contact klik ik op het adres en in Google maps krijg ik direct de locatie op de kaart te zien. Door in de kaart op het adres te klikken kan ik diverse acties uitvoeren. Ik kan direct een route laten bepalen vanaf de locatie waar ik me op dat moment bevind, ik kan Streeview opstarten maar ik kan ook kijken wat er allemaal in de buurt zit via ‘What’s here?’. Een lijstje met bedrijfsnamen die zich in de buurt bevinden verschijnt. Klik ik daarop dan zie ik naast de locatie informatie alle info van het betreffende bedrijf, compleet met URL’s en alles wat via Google wordt aangeleverd, die waarheid zeg maar. Kijk ik in Google maps op de kaart dan zie ik allerlei symbolen van restaurants, stations en andere points of interest staan. Klik ik daarop dan zie ik weer allerlei info verschijnen. Is het een restaurant  dan tevens de reviews erbij die vanuit Google komen en alle detail informatie. Ik kan direct bellen, ik kan buzzen, ik zie openingstijden etc etc. De waarheid die mij door Google wordt aangereikt.

Slechts een voorbeeld van de wijze waarop de waarheid van Google zich in de genen van de Nexus One bevindt. Wat moet ik daarmee, zullen mensen zich afvragen. Nou ik kan je vertellen dat het in de praktijk behoorlijk handig blijkt te zijn en het meerdere vastgeroeste handelingen in een klap weghaalt. Alles wat ons jaren geleden werd voorgehouden komt nu toch heel dicht bij. Ik sta continu in contact met de hele wereld, met de waarheid van Google die per seconde wijzigt en voorzie mijzelf van informatie die mij helpt in werk en prive.
