SaaS & Cloud Computing: volgende hype?

Bijzonder om te zien dat Twinfield al 10 jaar volgens het SaaS (Software as a Service) model haar software online levert in een abonnementsmodel en dat nu pas in non-IT media hier steeds meer over gesproken wordt. Hier lijkt toch het oude gezegde te kloppen dat wanneer één schaap over de dam is de rest wel volgt. Dat ene schaap is wel een grote namelijk Microsoft genaamd. Die publiceerde onlangs een onderzoek waaruit blijkt dat het MKB nog onzeker is over online diensten. Het is alsof vanaf dat moment wat zaken in de tweede versnelling zijn gegaan. De termen SaaS en Cloud Computing lijken hun intrede definitief te hebben gedaan.Een groot gedeelte van de mensen die ik spreek hoef ik niet meer de betekenis ervan uit te leggen. Dank je Microsoft want het legt ons geen windeieren. Als voorvechter van dit model met partijen zoals Salesforce.com wordt het alleen maar  makkelijker om duidelijk te maken wat de voordelen ervan zijn. In toenemende mate zien we de traditionele software aanbieders worstelen met de transitie naar een dergelijk model. Ik geef het menig CEO te doen om van een traditioneel licentiemodel om te vormen naar een SaaS model. Binnen ons eigen toepassingsgebied zijn er partijen die meer dan 65% van de omzet uit zogenaamde ‘maintenance fees’ halen. Oftewel ondernemers die jaren geleden voor 1.000 euro een softwarepakket hebben gekocht betalen jaarlijks 150 euro aan maintenance fees. Een enorme inkomstenbron die in één klap verdwijnt wanneer van de ene op de andere dag wordt overgegaan op een abonnementsmodel. Het bedrijf erachter is op een dergelijke kasstroom totaal niet ingesteld, abonnementsprijzen van slechts tussen de 10 en 50 euro. Maar heb je eenmaal die diesel op gang dan is het een van de meest betrouwbare bedrijfsmodellen die er bestaan. Vandaar dat waarderingen van een Salesforce.com of Netsuite zo gigantisch hoog zijn.

Met deze bewustwording binnen de IT industrie merken wij dat we steeds vaker worden gevraagd voor seminars en congressen om te komen vertellen over ons bedrijfsmodel. Dat doen wij graag en zodoende spreekt André Kwakernaat binnenkort op een minisymposium van M&I/Partners. Andersom doen wij het ook waarbij Hans van der Meer van Microsoft spreekt op onze Nationale Accountancydag. M&I/Partners adviseert grote ondernemingen en overheid op het gebied van complexe advies vraagstukken. Ook zij merken in toenemende mate de interesse in SaaS en Cloud Computing in hoeverre dergelijke instellingen daarop in moeten spelen. Een interessant symposium om aan deel te nemen door aan partij die weet waarover zij spreekt. Hebben we te maken met een hype? Ik denk het niet. Teveel ontwikkelingen die nu echt serieus voet aan de grond krijgen. Boekhouding uit de kraan als een soort van nutsvoorziening, klinkt wel aardig.
