Gevat door het accountants virus

Twee weken na onze eigen Nationale Accountancydag de Accountancynieuwsdag in Papendal. Bijna 1.000 deelnemers wat een groei is van 50% ten opzichte van vorig jaar. Zou betekenen dat wij met onze eigen NAD op de 750 deelnemers zouden moeten komen volgend jaar, mooie uitdaging. Het geeft in ieder geval aan dat er voldoende reuring zit in de accountancy sector en dat er wat gaande is. Accountants beseffen het maar al te goed alleen al gegeven de berichten vanuit de overheid en zelfs Brussel. Het feit dat bij binnenkomst op de ANdag er een Twitterfeed wordt weergegeven met #andag, wie had dat ooit gedacht. Leuke manier om live gedurende de sessies de meningen en gedachten van aanwezigen te volgen zoals tevens op onze NAD via #nad2010. Het lukte mij om tijdens de ANdag een aantal sessies bij te wonen en deed daar een schokkende ontdekking: ik ben in slechts 365 dagen gaan praten als een accountant! Ik ben nu een jaar werkzaam voor Twinfield komend vanuit een situatie van eigen ondernemerschap. Ik kan me dus enigszins inleven in de clientèle van de kantoren. Wat mij gedurende de sessies is gaan opvallen is dat we allemaal min of meer hetzelfde roepen: veranderen! De reden waarom weten we eigenlijk allemaal wel, andere rol accountant, van boekhouder naar coach, meer advies, efficiënter verwerken van administraties voor het creëren van de betere uren en ga zo maar door. Een verhaal waar we het continu over hebben echter wat ik opmerkte om mij heen, mompelende accountants: ‘Tja, dat we moeten veranderen weten we wel, de reden waarom eigenlijk ook, grote vraag is alleen hoe!?’. En daar werd ik even met de neus op de feiten gedrukt. We roepen over en moedigen aan tot verandering maar welke handreiking doen we nu eigenlijk, welke oplossing bieden we aan, welke stappen moet een accountantskantoor nu concreet nemen? De grote ‘hoe’ vraag.

Als ik voor mezelf een jaar terug ga, toen sprak ik niet als accountant maar als ondernemer. Als ik nu de balans opmaak, wat zeggen we dan allemaal tegen die ondernemers? Mijn conclusie: accountants doen enorm hun best om maar uit te leggen wat ze allemaal doen om de uren die ze erin stoppen en factureren te kunnen verantwoorden. Probleem hierbij is dat het door de ondernemer nog steeds wordt gezien als noodzakelijk kwaad en voornamelijk geen toegevoegde waarde heeft oftewel, de ondernemer blijft het gevoel houden dat ie teveel betaalt. Kijk, ik begrijp inmiddels wel wat er allemaal moet gebeuren voor het verwerken van een administratie maar betrap me erop dat ik inmiddels mede aan het uitleggen ben aan de ondernemer via de accountant wat er allemaal moet gebeuren. Beredeneert vanuit de accountant en niet vanuit de ondernemer. En dat terwijl aan de ondernemerszijde de behoefte mijns inziens vrij eenvoudig vast te stellen is: actuele relevante stuurinformatie. Dus als de ondernemer hier behoefte aan heeft, waarom geven we dit dan niet? Starten met de behoefte van de ondernemer en daarop de dienstverlening als kantoor op laten aansluiten. Zet uit gedachten alles wat je als accountant hebt geleerd, dat is allemaal niet relevant. Het is namelijk de weg die je moet afleggen om tot de gewenste informatie voor de ondernemer te komen, die is daar niet in geïnteresseerd. Immers ik ben niet geïnteresseerd in de wijze waarop mijn auto in elkaar wordt gezet, het eindresultaat, het rijgedrag dat is wat ertoe doet.

Het zal dus de ondernemende accountant zijn die het kantoor de volgende stap laat maken. Met de nadruk op ‘ondernemende’ die in staat is om de klant en haar informatiebehoefte echt centraal te stellen. ‘Information dominance’ zoals Fou-Khan dat zou noemen. Niet te snel roepen dat je dat al doet. Ik denk dat het misschien wel de niet accountants zijn binnen de kantoren die de basis voor succes van morgen vormen. Zoals Jan Wietsma aanhaalde tijdens zijn sessie: een coach is iets anders dan een adviseur. Een adviseur handelt uit kennismacht, een coach op basis van gelijkwaardigheid. Jeroen Smit haalde het tevens aan, er is behoefte aan verscheidenheid binnen directies, mensen die handelen vanuit gevoel en niet vanuit kennis. Daar is waar de ondernemer behoefte aan heeft. Dank ANdag voor deze wake-up call. Het blijkt gelukkig niet het accountants virus maar een bacterie te zijn dat me heeft gegrepen.     How is it that just anybody can publish a blog and get as popular as this? Its not like youve said anything extremely impressive –more like youve painted a fairly picture about an issue that you know nothing about! I dont want to sound mean, here.
